Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles

A profoundly moving, heartfelt Japanese film about a stubborn, widowed Japanese fisherman (Ken Takakura) who learns more about himself and his estranged, terminally ill son (Kiichi Nakiai) when he leaves him and his worried daughter-in-law (Shinobu Terajima) in Tokyo and heads to China to complete his son's unfinished documentary about a masked Chinese folk opera and is humbled and gratified by the people who help him, including a Japanese interpreter (Jiang Wen), a village tour guide (Lin Qiu), a prison warden (Ziliang Chen), an imprisoned singer (Jiamin Li), and an eight-year-old boy (Zhenbo Yang).
