Notes on a Scandal
Intelligent and superb dialogue fills this powerful, tightly paced, Oscar-caliber film with intense, mesmerizing performances in which a lonely, calculating, hardhearted, and uncompromising British spinster (Judi Dench) coyly manipulates and corners a newly hired art teacher (Cate Blanchett) into a much needed, highly desired friendship when she promises to keep her coworker's foolish affair with a devious 15-year-old student (Andrew Simpson) a secret from school officials and from her much older, trusting husband (Bill Nighy) and two children (Juno Temple and Max Lewis).
