American Crime, An

A stomach-churning, well-acted, factually based 2007 film in which an Indiana prosecuting attorney (Bradley Whitford) seeks justice in 1966 for the sadistic torture and murder of a 16-year-old student (Ellen Page) when her unsuspecting parents (Nick Searcy and Romy Rosemont) leave her and her impressionable younger sister (Hayley McFarland) with a depressed, abusive, asthmatic, divorced single mother (Catherine Keener) with five children (Ari Graynor, Scout Taylor-Compton, Tristan Jarred, Hannah Leigh Dworkin, and Charlie Westerman) and a newborn, who was father by her abusive lover (James Franco), who is trying to supplement her meager ironing income.
