Gambler, The A cerebral, engaging, dark, well-acted, unpredictable, 111-minute film in which a self-destructive, gambling-addicted, reckless, novelist turned assistant English college professor (Mark Wahlberg) creatively pits three dangerous loan sharks (John Goodman, Alvin Ing, and Michael Kenneth Williams) against each other when he owes them thousands of dollars after squandering cash from his fed-up, wealthy mother (Jessica Lange) and the lives and careers of two of his students (Brie Larson and Anthony Kelley) are in jeopardy.
