Godzilla Minus One
horizontal line

[Opened Dec. 1 in theaters.] After a guilt-ridden Japanese kamikaze fighter pilot (Ryunosuke Kamiki) feels responsible for the death of numerous mechanics on Odo Island in 1945 during WWII with the angry lead mechanic (Munetaka Aoki) as a witness and then ends up meeting and caring for a kindhearted woman (Minami Hamabe) with an orphaned infant girl (Sae Nagatani) in Takashi Yamazaki's highly entertaining, riveting, well-written, superbly acted, action-packed, fast-paced, bittersweet, heartbreaking, 125-minute remake of the 1954 thriller with a terrific storyline, character development, and special effects, he eventually tries to redeem himself when the monstrous, atomic-fire-breathing, mutated sea creature Godzilla attacks the cities of Ginza and Tokyo by joining forces with a weapons engineer (Hidetaka Yoshioka), a minesweeper trainee (Yuki Yamada), military veterans (Kuranosuke Sasaki, Mio Tanaka, et al.), a scientist (Munetaka Aoki), and numerous Japanese civilians.
