[Plays on Independent Lens on PBS on Jan. 22 at CT 10 p.m. and available to stream on the PBS App.] Sara Newens and Mina T. Son's educational, eye-opening, insightful, ire-inducing, thought-provoking, 86-minute documentary that examines a controversial, thick hedge of tamarisk trees planted in the 1950s which obstruct the view of the city-owned golf course and many of the nearby mountain for Black residents living in the 76-home Lawrence Crossley Tract neighborhood in Palm Springs and whose continued presence is seen as a racist act designed to segregate this neighborhood from the rest of Palm Springs and consists of archival photographs and film clips and interview snippets with Mayor Pro Tem J.R. Roberts, Palm Springs city manager David Ready, realtor Trae Daniel, Palm Springs co-city manager Marcus Fuller, The Desert Sun reporter Corrine Kennedy, I.S.A. certified arborist Angela Johnson, Crossley Tract residents (such as Kenney and Rosie Harmon, Donald Archer, Callie and Ray Williams, Cathie Fox, Charles Metcalf Jr., Kevin Williams), Black History Committee members Jarvis Crawford and Janel Hunt, Brookings Institute senior fellow Andre M. Perry, Los Angeles Times reporter Tyrone Beason, and Palm Springs Historical Society member Renee Brown.
