Zone of Interest, The [Opened Jan. 26 in theaters.] Jonathan Glazer's powerful, Oscar-nominated, factually inspired, poignant, unsettling, moving, well-acted, haunting, terrifically written, superbly cast, thought-provoking, 106-minute historical film adapted from Martin Amis' 2014 novel in which ambitious, cold-blooded, workaholic Nazi commandant Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) runs the Auschwitz concentration camp and lives next door with his gardening-loving wife Hedwig (Sandra Hüller), whose mother (Imogen Kogge) visited briefly and skipped out in the middle of the night, and five children (Johann Karthaus, Luis Noah Witte, Kalman Wilson, Anastazja Drobniak, and Cecylia Pekala) in 1943 along with their staff of Jewish prisoners while the horrors of the Holocaust take place on the other side of the wall next to the family home and idyllic gardens.
