Old Man and the Land, The [Opens Sept. 20 in U.K. in theaters.] A wonderful musical score highlights Nicholas Parish's compelling, impressive, terrific acting, well-written, 93-minute film characterized by exceptional cinematography and great character development in an uniquely original tale of an aging, widowed British farmer (Roger Marten) and his two bickering adult children (voiceovers Rory Kinnear and Emily Beecham), whose daughter is living in Spain and his son is an alcoholic, who all grew up on this multigenerational farm and loved the land, but who have different ideas for its future once the father retires from farming; meanwhile the three demonstrate how their complex personal histories complicate their interactions, but also how their love for each other and for the land holds them together.
