Reading Lolita in Tehran: Memoir in Books

[Opens July 10 in theaters.] When a headstrong, courageous English professor (Golshifteh Farshani), who has two children (Gaia Della Ciana/Diana Treppo and Francesco Mitidieri/Adrian Treppo) returns to Iran with her civil engineer husband (Arash Marandi) at the beginning of the Iranian revolution in 1979 to teach what Iran deems provocative literature at Tehran University in Nafisi's powerful, poignant, factually inspired, eye-opening, well-acted, 107-minute, 2024 film based on Azar Nafisi's bestselling 2003 memoir, she eventually resigns from her teaching positions and starts a secret class to seven of her best students regarding classics such as Lolita, The Great Gatsby, One Thousand and One Nights, Daisy Miller, and Pride and Prejudice and eventually leaves the oppressive country to move to Washington, D.C., in 2003.
